The STOMP Fest Derby is open to racers ages 5–16. Division is determined by the racer's age on October 17, 2026.

Little STOMP Racers — Ages 5–7
Junior STOMP Racers — Ages 8–10
Senior STOMP Racers — Ages 11–13
Teen STOMP Racers — Ages 14–16

Registration is FREE and closes October 10, 2026.

Thanks to the generosity of Royal Rangers Outpost #315, every registered racer will receive an official pre-cut STOMP Fest Derby car kit at no cost.

Official Car Kit

All racers must compete using the official STOMP Fest Derby car kit provided by STOMP.

Several pre-cut body styles are available. Racers may choose from the available styles when picking up their kit on a first-come, first-served basis.

Adult assistance is encouraged for age-appropriate tasks and tools, but the racer should meaningfully participate in preparing, painting and decorating their car.

Pre-Cut Car Body

The basic pre-cut body shape must remain intact to help keep competition accessible and fair for every racer.

Cars may be lightly sanded, painted and decorated. Weights and securely attached decorative elements may also be added as permitted by these rules.

Cutting, carving, hollowing, shortening or substantially reshaping the supplied car body is not permitted.

Car Specifications

Completed cars must meet the following requirements:

Maximum length: 7 inches
Maximum overall width: 2¾ inches
Maximum weight: 5.0 ounces

The official STOMP Fest Derby inspection scale will determine final race-day weight.

Added weights must be securely attached and may not move while the car is racing.

Wheels, Axles & Lubrication

Cars must use the wheels and axles supplied with the official STOMP Fest Derby kit. Specialty or replacement racing wheels and axles are not permitted.

Light sanding or polishing of the supplied wheels and axles is permitted as part of normal preparation.

All four wheels must be installed.

Only dry lubricant may be used. Liquid or oil-based lubricants are not permitted. No lubricant may be applied after the car has passed race-day inspection.

Decorating Your Ride

Creativity is encouraged! Paint, decals and decorations are welcome.

All additions must be securely attached and may not cause the car to exceed the maximum dimensions or weight, interfere with another car or lane, or interfere with the track.

Cars must be powered by gravity only. Motors, batteries, fans, springs, propulsion devices, stored-energy devices or other mechanisms designed to propel the car are not permitted.

Race-Day Inspection

Every car must pass official inspection before competing.

Cars that do not initially pass inspection may make minor corrections in the designated Pit Stop area before inspection closes.

Once a car passes inspection, it will be placed in the Derby impound area and may not be handled or modified unless authorized by a Derby official.

STOMP Fest Derby officials will stage cars on the track.

Repairs & Reruns

If a car is damaged during racing, Derby officials may allow reasonable repairs necessary to return it to racing condition. Repairs may restore the car but may not be used to improve its performance. The car must pass reinspection before returning to competition.

A race may be rerun when Derby officials determine that a track malfunction, improper start, interference or another circumstance prevented a fair race.

Sportsmanship

Good sportsmanship is expected from racers, parents, guardians and spectators.

Cheering is encouraged! Interfering with another racer's car, arguing with officials or conduct that disrupts the family-friendly atmosphere of the Derby is not.

STOMP Fest Derby officials have final authority regarding inspection, rule interpretation, reruns and race-day decisions.

Adult Supervision

Every minor racer must remain with a parent, guardian or responsible adult during the STOMP Fest Derby. STOMP does not provide participant supervision or childcare.
